[Advisors] How to Enable Multi-Factor Authentication
Important! Account Owners now can require all Advisors and Admins in their firm to use multi-factor authentication (MFA).
-If this option is "on" for the firm, the next time you log into yourAdvicePay account, you'll be required to set up their MFA and will be unable to proceed. If this is the case for your firm, please use the below authenticator app, text message, or email instructions to set up your MFA.
**If the authentication is required for us to reset it for any reason, our team may need to verify your identity with a few security questions.
Here at AdvicePay, we offer a few ways for multi-factor authentication options: text messages, email, and the use of an authenticator application. We strongly encourage you to enable one of them to help ensure your information remains safe and secure.
In this article:
- Using the Authenticator
- Using Text Message
- Using Email
- Reset Multi-Factor Authentication or Change the Type
Option 1: Use an authenticator app (recommended)
1. Begin by visiting Your Profile> Multi-Factor Authentication and toggling Enable Multi-Factor Authentication to on:
2. Select your preference: Authenticator app, Text Message, or Email. Enter the codes promptly as they can time out.
3. Use the links provided to find and download either Google Authenticator or Authy (if one is not installed on your mobile device already). Next, enter in your mobile phone number and click Register.
4. Scan the QR code displayed on the screen with your authentication app.
5. Enter the code for AdvicePay from your app and click Confirm Phone.
The next time you log in you'll be prompted to enter a verification code from your app after you enter your email and password!
Option 2: Using Text Message
1. Begin by visiting Your Profile > Multi-Factor Authentication and toggling Enable Multi-Factor Authentication to on:
2. Select Receive a text message.
3. Enter a phone number where you can receive text messages, then click Confirm Phone.
4. Finally, enter the AdvicePay verification code sent to that phone number and click Confirm!
When logging in you'll be prompted to enter a verification code sent via text message after you enter your email and password.
Option 3: Using Email
- Begin by visiting Your Profile > Multi-Factor Authentication and toggling Enable Multi-Factor Authentication to on:
- Select Receive an Email
- Ensure the email is correct (blurred out here) and click Register:
- Check your email with the subject line: "Your AdvicePay Authorization Code" and grab the code to enter the code in the box and click Confirm Switch.
- That's it! Your Multi-factor authentication is now all set!
Reset-Factor Authentication or Change the Type
No problem! To update your connection (e.g. switch from text messages to using an app), visit your Profile > Multi-Factor Authentication, click Change MFA Method
Tip: To change your phone number, change the method, then go back to text message to update the number.
To turn off Multi-Factor authentication entirely, visit your Profile > Multi-Factor Authentication and toggle Enable Multi-Factor Authentication to off. You will need your password to turn this off. Thereafter, it will allow you to log in with only an email and password.
