[Advisor] Bulk Importing Clients
Depending on the settings your Enterprise firm has established, please note that you may not see the ability to import clients in your account! If this is the case, we recommend reaching out to your firm's Home Office for more details.
If you have a long list of existing clients that you need to get set up on AdvicePay quickly, this feature will make life easier with a single .csv file upload.
The Bulk Import template will provide fields to be completed based on your firm and the features used in AdvicePay.
1. Begin by visiting Clients in your sidebar. Click the Import button:

2. Download our .CSV template by clicking on the blue link. This template includes all custom properties and SSO fields, among others for the firm based on settings and what is being used.

3. Enter your client's information for the required fields and any optional fields:
- First Name (required)
- Last Name (required)
- Display Name (optional)
- Email (required)
- Advisor Email (required-this email must be associated with the advisor's existing AdvicePay account).
- Client ID (optional-will only show on reports if "on" for this attribute by your firm)
- Client Attributes on the account (required)
If you'd like a different name to appear on invoices (a business name or both names of a couple), enter that under Display Name. You can also enter an internal Client ID. Note that the client ID will only be visible if the firm has the client external ID change setting enabled.
Additional items on your upload template may also include areas for:
- External engagement IDs
- Deliverables with Due dates
External Engagement IDs provide seamless data mapping for Engagements between AdvicePay and outside systems. Deliverable Due Dates can also be added to an existing Engagement that may be different from the system-generated dates.
4. Save your finished file in the CSV format. If you're using Windows, you may need to save your file as a .txt.
5. Drag and drop (or click) to upload the file to AdvicePay. When successful, you'll receive a confirmation, along with the number of client records we detected.
6. Click Review & Import
7. On the Review screen, you can verify that your import looks accurate before adding clients to your account.
If you decide you don't want a particular client imported, uncheck the box to the left of their name:
8. Finally, click Import Selected to complete your bulk client import:

Please note: Standard advisors cannot add clients and assign them to other advisors in the firm.
When imported, any clients associated with other firm advisors on the CSV file will automatically be assigned to the Standard advisor. The Account Owner and their Admin can add and assign clients to Advisors. Read-only advisors cannot import clients.
