[Account Owner] Bulk Client & Engagement Import
If you have a long list of existing clients that you need to get set up on AdvicePay quickly, this feature will make life easier with a single .csv file upload.
The Bulk Import template will provide fields to be completed based on your firm and what features are being utilized in AdvicePay. It'll also be able to check if engagements, deliverables, and subscriptions are active for clients and if they already exist in AdvicePay.
Please note that the Account Owner and their assigned Admins can upload the template.
1. Begin by going to Accounts in the left sidebar and visiting Clients. Click the Import button:

2. Download our .CSV template by clicking on the blue link. This template includes all custom properties and SSO fields for the firm based on settings and what is being used

3. Enter your client's information for the required and any optional fields:
- First Name (required)
- Last Name (required)
- Display Name (optional- If you'd like a different name to appear on invoices (a business name or both names of a couple).
- Email (required)
- Advisor Email (required-this email must be associated with an advisor existing in your AdvicePay account).
- Client ID (optional)
- Client Attributes on the account (required)
If you'd like a different name to appear on invoices (a business name or both names of a couple), enter that under Display Name. You can also enter an internal Client ID. Note that the client ID will only be visible if the firm has the client external ID change setting enabled.
Additional items on your firm's template may also include areas for:
- Subscription data
- External Engagement IDs
- Deliverables with Due dates
- Disable Direct Login (required/optional depending on firm settings if SSO is used)
- SSO ID (required/optional depending on firm settings) - only if the firm has enterprise SSO.
External Engagement ID's allow for seamless data mapping for Engagements between AdvicePay and outside systems, where Deliverable Due Dates can also be added to an existing Engagement that may be different from the system-generated dates.
4. Save your finished file in the CSV format. If you're using Windows, you may need to save your file as a .txt.
5. Drag and drop (or click) to upload the file to AdvicePay. When successful, you'll receive a confirmation, along with the number of client records we detected.
Receiving a formatting error instead? Please double-check that all of your required fields are filled out in the format and that all Advisor emails currently exist in your account.
6. Click Review & Import
7. On the Review screen, you can verify that your import looks accurate before adding clients to your account.
If you decide you don't want a particular client imported, uncheck the box to the left of their name:
8. Finally, click Import Selected to complete your bulk client import:
